Trying to keep up with what is going in the nanotechnology world is a project onto itself. There is research and beginning development in a wide variety of fields, many of which only a well-educated scientist would understand. However, there are some directions that are being pursued in the nanotechnology world that may have significant impact on future of life and work in the near future. One is the development of fiber batteries.

Fiber batteries, millimeter thin, can be woven into what might best be envisioned as a very thin fiber string. That string could in turn be woven into textiles. The Chinese developed the fibers into a material that is used in making a tent. The material could receive energy from the sun, store it, and provide the energy to operate technology devices. In addition, the fiber can be turned on a tube, become a battery that produces electricity. Given development over some time and it may provide a very light weight battery to power electric automobiles.

Another interesting development is using nanotechnology to create a synthetic enamel like that found on teeth. After in depth research into human enamel, which is both strong and flexible, scientists are using nanotechnology to create a material that is similar to human tooth enamel. In fact, in most tests the synthetic material proved to out-perform natural enamel. If this synthetic enamel can successfully come through further tests, it could be used on teeth to strengthen them. In addition, it has the potential to repair broken bones, or those that deteriorate with age.

The development of nanotechnology is working behind the scenes to improve medical applications is something to observe in the near future as it holds significant value for improving and repairing certain parts of the human body.
